The Pau Assize Court (Pyrénées-Atlantiques) sentenced the two attackers of the bus driver killed in Bayonne in July 2020 to 15 and 13 years of criminal imprisonment. The victim’s wife did not hide her anger.
Véronique Monguillot, wife of the bus driver killed in Bayonne in July 2020, is stunned. She does not understand the verdict of the Pau Assize Court (Pyrénées-Atlantiques). The two attackers were sentenced to 15 and 13 years of criminal imprisonment. A sentence that she considers far too lenient. “My life has been over since July 5, 2020, who will carry my daughters? My husband will never come back”she confided at the end of the hearing.
An altercation causes the death of the bus driver
On July 5, 2020, Philippe Monguillot is behind the wheel of his bus in Bayonne. An altercation breaks out with two young people who are not wearing masks and do not have a transport ticket. After headbutting, the bus driver is then severely beaten. As he fell, his head hit the sidewalk. The Assize Court found that the two accused were indeed guilty of these actions, without intending to cause death. The two convicts did not appeal this decision.
