Three years ago, the Burmese military junta overthrew the government in a bloody coup. Today, rebel groups are leading resistance in several regions.

A significant and dissuasive military presence. Almost deserted streets in downtown Rangoon. This is what the economic capital of Burma looks like, three years after the junta’s coup. A day chosen by general to announce the extension of the state of emergency for six months. 1er February 2021, the army overthrew the civilian government by force.

The resistance is organized

With bloody repression: at least 4,400 dead, opponents killed in the streets, and tens of thousands of arrests, including that of Aung San Suu Kyi, elected leader and former Nobel Peace Prize winner. But for three years, resistance has been organizing. Initially, they were rebel ethnic groups, today they are a real army, well trained and equipped. Every day, new recruits arrive, very determined men and women.
