Yangon | A Burmese army plane crashed in the north of the country on Wednesday morning following “a technical failure”, the junta’s information team said in a statement.
The search has begun to find the pilot who, according to the authorities, was carrying out a simple training mission.
The plane took off from Tada-U air base near Mandalay (center) and crashed in the Sagaing region (north).
Since the February 2021 military coup against Aung San Suu Kyi, the army has carried out several airstrikes in the country, particularly in the Sagaing region, one of the strongholds of anti-junta resistance.
Due to the lack of funding in the aviation sector, air accidents are relatively frequent in Burma.
In June, twelve people, including a high-ranking monk, were killed in the crash of a military plane.
In 2017, an aircraft crashed in the Andaman Sea. All 122 passengers were killed in the air crash, one of the deadliest in the country’s history.
