Burgos Tour | The Quebec women give everything for their teammates

The Spaniard Mavi Garcia (UAE ADQ) had a very good day on Saturday at the Tour of Burgos by winning the third stage of the event, at the same time taking first place in the provisional general classification with only one stage to go.

Garcia broke away from the leading peloton with less than a kilometer to go to win 12 seconds ahead of her closest pursuer, the Frenchwoman Évite Muzic (FDJ Nouvelle-Aquitaine Futuroscope).

For their part, Quebecers Magdeleine Vallières-Mill (EF Education-TIBCO-SVB) and Olivia Baril (Valcar Travel & Service) finished respectively in 68and and at 102and ranks.

Vallières-Mill continued the momentum of the day before by acting as a servant for her teammates. Important work since three colleagues of the Quebecer have climbed into the top 20 of the day: American Krista Doebel-Hickok (8and), the Italian Letizia Borghesi (16and) and American Veronica Ewers (17and).

“My job was to watch for breakaway opportunities, the peloton stayed together and there were no leaks until the very end. I also took care of fetching water and ice for my teammates. It’s a mission that I like, especially when the results are interesting at the end of the day,” explained the Sherbrooke resident who had a mechanical problem on the penultimate climb of the day.

Doebel-Hickok, Borghesi and Ewers are all in excellent positions in the provisional general classification, only 15 seconds behind Mavi Garcia in the lead. Vallières-Mill expects to go into overdrive on Sunday during the fourth and final stage of the Tour.

“Everything is still possible in the general classification. Everything will be decided on the last climb tomorrow. We will force for the three, the one with the most legs will have all our support. I will try to place them in the best possible conditions for the final, ”concluded Vallières-Mill.

On Sunday, cyclists will pedal the 125.1 kilometers that separate Covarrubias and Lagunas de Neila on the occasion of the last stage.
