Bugatti marked the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in August 2019 with the unveiling of the Centodieci, a new, very limited edition car based on the Chiron but paying homage to the classic EB110 from the early 1990s.
How limited? Only 10 copies could be ordered, for the modest sum of $9 million US (about $11.7 million Canadian) each. It’s more than double the Chiron… but much less than the unique copy of La Voiture Noire, of course.
After a long delay caused by the pandemic, the last tests on the Centodieci were carried out a few weeks ago and the first car could finally be delivered to its lucky buyer.
This sports a dress of the same blue as the EB110 offered at the time, a blue which also colored the walls of the Campogalliano factory where production took place. And you know what? Its owner still has a copy of the original, as you can see in the pictures.
Design elements inspired by the EB110 include the shape of the grilles at the front, the hidden roof pillars on each side of the windscreen and of course the new air intake with five circular openings on the flanks. The rims adopt the same Silver Sport finish.
Inside, the quilted checkerboard pattern on the seats, doors, console, carpets and ceiling in turn mirrors the EB110. According to Bugatti, it took no less than 16 weeks to complete the decor, not counting the entire year to develop the interior.
“After two years of tireless work, we have refined the Centodieci to the level that our customers are looking for in all Bugatti models,” says brand president Christophe Piochon.
By the way, what about the engine? The Centodieci’s four-turbocharged 8.0-liter W16 produces 1,577 horsepower, 99 more than the base Chiron, and its weight has been reduced by 44 pounds. The 0-100 km/h sprint takes 2.4 seconds, a tenth less, and the 0-300 km/h sprint takes 13.1 seconds, a gain of half a second.
