(Buffalo) The Buffalo Sabers will be without Tage Thompson for at least a month after the first-line center was shot in the left wrist.
Head coach Don Granato did not reveal the exact nature of the injury following Wednesday’s practice. Thompson was injured Tuesday when he blocked a shot by Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy in the second period of a 5-2 loss.
“We expect less than two months,” Granato said. It’s more of a week-to-week assessment. I have no return date for him. »
Thompson entered Tuesday’s game tied for second on the Sabres with six goals and 12 points. He has scored at least 37 goals in each of the last two seasons and is coming off the best campaign of his career, with 47 goals and 94 points.
The Sabers (7-8-1) have lost their last two outings and begin a three-game road trip by facing the Jets in Winnipeg on Friday night.
