(Quebec) The mayor of Quebec assures that he has no intention of getting into the leadership race of the Liberal Party of Quebec (PLQ) and wants to silence the rumor machine that got carried away Monday morning.
In quick succession, two political columnists indicated on the radio that Liberal activists dreamed that Bruno Marchand would launch into the race, and even that “approaches” had been made to the mayor of Quebec.
“The name that comes up often is Bruno Marchand. Liberal activists see Bruno Marchand as the savior of the PLQ, ”said Jonathan Trudeau on the Paul Arcand show.
Sébastien Bovet also spoke about it on the ICI Première morning show in the capital. “I heard the name Bruno Marchand,” he said.
The two analysts made it clear that it was a name raised by the militants and multiplied the conditionals. The office of the mayor of Quebec, however, had no choice but to react immediately.
“Mr. Marchand does not intend to participate in the leadership race of the PLQ,” replied his cabinet in a press release. “His only motivation remains the creation of a modern city of Quebec and the work he does in collaboration with the citizens for whom he feels the greatest respect. »
The mayor’s office refused to say whether any approaches had been made by PLQ figures.
Bruno Marchand entered municipal politics in the winter of 2020 to succeed Régis Labeaume. His sympathies on the provincial scene are not public knowledge, but he notably surrounded himself from the start with several former members of the Parti Québécois and the Bloc.
