Bruno Le Maire wants to freeze the assets of traffickers

The Minister of the Economy promised a “legislative modification” allowing this sanction, already applied in terrorism cases.

The freezing of drug traffickers’ assets will enter into law in 2024, announced Bruno Le Maire during his wishes to economic players in Bercy, Monday January 8. The Minister of Economy and Finance says he wants “hit drug traffickers in the wallet”.

“We will toughen our response to drug trafficking: a legislative amendment will allow us this year to freeze the assets of drug traffickers, as we already do for terrorists,” he announced.

Drug trafficking “plagues French society”

Bruno Le Maire continued by believing that drug trafficking “plagued the entire French society, small town as well as large city, medium-sized town as well as small village”, recalling his “total determination” to combat this trafficking.

At the beginning of January, the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin also sent a message of firmness regarding drug trafficking, during a visit to Marseille, where settling of scores is regular. “We are going to accelerate the work of firmness”he promised.
