Questioned during the session of questions to the government at the National Assembly, the minister added that he would receive again the distributors “in the next few days” with his colleague Olivia Grégoire, Minister Delegate for Trade. “I will present in the coming days measures which will be effective and credible and which will once again allow France (…) to contain inflation for our compatriots”he continued.

These measures will be taken “with the support of distributors who must make – as the President of the Republic reminded – an effort on their margins to continue to lower food prices”, he pointed out. The Ministry of the Economy has not specified at this stage the content of these measures. Trade negotiations end on Wednesday between supermarkets and their agribusiness suppliers. Discussions predict further price increases, while inflation rebounded to 6.2% over one year in February, including 14.5% for food products alone.
