“I couldn’t say no to TF1!” It is with these words that Bruce Toussaint gave his first interview following the formalization of his departure from BFMTV for TF1, from January 2024. The 49-year-old journalist will be the new morning worker for France’s leading channel, and will offer a new morning show on TF1, which will face a shock broadcast: Telematin ! Established for more than 35 years in the public service, this morning show, in the hands of Marie Portolano and Thomas Sotto, brings together nearly 30% of the public…Bruce Toussaint will have a lot to do to change the habits of the French, but this new challenge that awaits him presses him!
“All of this is being developed. We are starting from a blank page, with just Bruce Toussaint written on it” confided the resigning from BFMTV. For the moment, no information can leak since nothing has yet been validated: nor the columnists who will surround the journalistneither the name of the show which he will animate. Nothing is yet sealed, and the field of possibilities is open. Nevertheless, Bruce Toussaint wishes to deny the rumors suggesting that he will copy Telematin. If the two programs will indeed compete and be broadcast over the same three-hour time slot, the fact remains that the editorial content of TF1 morning show will be different of that of Telematinpromises the journalist in any case.
Marie-Sophie Lacarrau had better watch out!
“I understand that people want to compare us, it has been the absolute reference for almost forty years. But we will not make a Telematin bis. We are going to create our own editorial line, which will be in the spirit of the channel’s other information events.” said Bruce Toussaint. TF1 wishes to focus on “proximity”, the key to the success of Marie-Sophie Lacarrau’s 1 p.m., desired by Jean-Pierre Pernaut more than thirty years ago. For TF1, this morning news will be 1 p.m. before 1 p.m., and not a pale copy of Telematin : “We will particularly emphasize proximity, as in TF1’s 13 Heures, thanks to the channel’s large network of correspondents in the regions”.
Cooking, decor and information!
For the moment, the columnists have not been chosen, but Bruce Toussaint wishes to rely on the talents of the TF1 group: “We will be live from Monday to Friday for three hours in the morning, with a group of columnists. They have not yet been chosen, but we really want to rely on talents House because there are so many. It will be a welcome program with obviously information. Be careful, not flashes but real newspapers designed by the TF1 editorial staff. Informing is the primary vocation of this new section. When they wake up, viewers want to know what happened. But we will also talk about other things: cooking, decoration… This is all being worked on.” he explained.
