The Girondins de Bordeaux are hit hard by the Covid-19. Twenty-one group players “are unavailable for reasons related to Covid” in view of the round of 16 of the Coupe de France football, scheduled for Sunday, January 2 in Brest, the club said in a press release on Thursday, December 30.
In its press release, the Bordeaux club lists a whole series of questions concerning the impact of the health situation on the competition and the decisions of the French Football Federation (FFF). “Why do you want to maintain – at all costs – the holding of this Coupe de France meeting? What are the real reasons?”, wonders the club which continues: “Especially since these are two teams not competing in the European Cup.”
The club continues its advocacy by targeting the value of the event, orphaned by many regular holders for these meetings. “Can we rejoice in the positive image of the Coupe de France when a professional club travels with a group made up of a majority of players from its reserve team?”. Before concluding with a concise question: “How far will the ridicule end? “

The FCGB, which specifies that all these questions have “not found a favorable echo with the federal authority “, indicates that 16 Bordeaux players “are placed in solitary confinement”. Its president, Gérard Lopez, asks that “preserved the sporting interest of the competition and to take into account the fact that the teams cannot be subjected to this health hazard which distorts the situation.” He nevertheless assures us that he will continue to “dialogue with the FFF to consider the best possible solutions in order to avoid offering (Sunday) a show that would not be worthy of the Coupe de France”.
