(New York) Audiences at Broadway theaters will have to keep their masks on until at least May 31, the trade association Broadway League announced on Friday.

The announcement comes as the United States faces a new wave of COVID-19, with cases rising nationally and in most states after a two-month decline.
Broadway League President Charlotte St. Martin explained that the intention to maintain strict mask-wearing during the month of May was to keep a safe environment for spectators and crafters.
“Of course, we urge everyone to get vaccinated,” she added in a statement.
If the wearing of the mask remains, it will be the end of the presentation of the vaccine passport in many theaters. The Shubert organization, which has 17 rooms, has indicated that it will no longer require proof of vaccination from customers from 1er may.
The Broadway League will announce its future mask policy in May. Its mask and vaccination measures have been in place since July 30, 2021. All Broadway workers must be fully vaccinated.
Several Broadway shows have had to cancel performances in recent weeks, including Plaza Suite when Matthew Broderick along with his wife and co-star Sarah Jessica Parker contracted the virus. Musical comedy A Strange Loop canceled its first preview performance and a new version of macbeth had been put on hiatus after Daniel Craig tested positive.
