(Los Angeles) After months of proceedings and twists and turns, a Los Angeles court finally decided on Friday to return control of her personal life to singer Britney Spears by ending the measure of guardianship that had weighed on her for thirteen years and that the star described as “abusive”.
“Guardianship over Britney Spears’ person and property ends effective today. This is the court ruling, ”said case judge Brenda Penny.
“I have never prayed so much for something in my life,” the 39-year-old artist wrote on her Instagram account on Tuesday, stressing the crucial importance of this meeting in court for her.
The young woman had certainly already won her case in court by obtaining the suspension of her father Jamie Spears from the role of guardian, which she had been asking publicly for months.
But Britney especially asked for the right to regain control of his personal life and the cancellation of the guardianship measure put in place in 2008 after psychological disorders manifested by the star.
Jamie Spears himself had come to terms with Britney’s request recently.
Britney Spears has been supported for years in her efforts by an “army” of fans demanding the “release” of their idol and who are regularly present in Los Angeles court on court days.
They had planned to hold a “Freedom Party” Friday in Hollywood if the court ruling was favorable.
” That’s enough ”
At the end of June, Britney Spears had struck the spirits by telling the court, via an internet connection, that she was “traumatized” and “depressed” by this tutelage. She had said in particular that she had not been able to have her IUD removed when she wanted to have other children, and to be forced to take medication that made her feel “drunk”.
The star had also complained of having to work at a sustained pace despite this measure of supervision and “pay for everyone around her” without being able to make her own decisions. In particular, she had to pay the very high fees of her father’s lawyers who opposed her in this procedure.
“I just want my life back, it’s been thirteen years and that’s enough,” she begged.
In July, Judge Penny allowed Britney Spears to choose her own lawyer, something she had not been able to do since 2008.
It is this lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, who obtained the suspension of Jamie Spears, a “cruel, toxic and abusive man” according to him, and who fought to cancel the guardianship of his client.
Jamie Spears has defended himself against any abuse or wrongdoing, but Mathew Rosengart has asked the court to open an investigation into his handling of Britney’s affairs.
A hearing has been scheduled for December to examine this aspect and outstanding financial issues, including attorneys’ fees that would exceed $ 1 million, according to the New York Times.
Britney Spears wanted, among other things, to emancipate herself from this tutelage to be able to marry her fiancé, Sam Asghari, whom she met in 2016 on the set of a video clip for the title Slumber Party.
27-year-old sports coach who recently embarked on an acting career, Sam Asghari posted a video Thursday night on Instagram where he appears alongside his fiancee, both wearing “Free Britney” t-shirts.
Britney Spears had two children with her ex-husband, singer Kevin Federline. She was also very briefly married in Las Vegas to a childhood friend, Jason Alexander: the union was called off 55 hours later.
The “Princess of Pop” has more than 100 million records sold around the world. She is in eighth place on the Billboard list of successful artists of the decade.
