British Virgin Islands | Prime Minister arrested in Florida for drug trafficking

(Miami) The Prime Minister of the British Virgin Islands was arrested Thursday in Florida and charged with drug trafficking and money laundering, announced the governor of this overseas territory of the United Kingdom.

“It is my duty as Governor to inform you that this morning Premier Andrew Fahie was arrested in Miami on charges related to the importation of narcotics and money laundering,” the official said. Virgin Islands Governor John Rankin in a statement.

The three defendants were arrested at a North Miami airport when they had an appointment with Mexican drug traffickers, in reality DEA undercover agents, who were to give them $700,000 in cash in exchange for their help in smuggling cocaine from Colombia to Miami and New York, according to court documents cited by the American press.
