Like every day, the franceinfo evening news takes a tour of the news broadcast by European television channels. It’s Eurozapping on Monday September 26th.

On Monday, September 26, the pound sterling came close to parity with the dollar, unheard of for 50 years. The British currency is a victim of the plans of the new Minister of Finance, Kwasi Kwarteng, in particular tax cuts paid for by loans. The markets no longer have confidence in the British economy. The Bank of England will have to raise its interest rates to save its currency, at the risk of worsening the recession.

In Switzerland, retirement at age 65 for women has just been adopted by only 50.6%. The men, who were retiring a year later than the women, voted for the measure at 65%. “This is perhaps a first step towards equality between men and women”, says a Swiss. The measure was however supposed to compensate for inequalities, in particular concerning maternity. Monday September 26, the women were in the street. A petition has already collected 60,000 signatures in 24 hours, and a strike is announced for June 2023.
