Jeremy Hunt, the British Finance Minister, announced tax cuts in Parliament on Wednesday March 6. “From April 6, employees’ social security contributions will be reduced. They will go from 10 to 8%”, did he declare. British opinions are divided. “If we give people more money, they can spend it however they want”says a woman. “I prefer there to be no tax cuts, and more investment in public services”confides a man.
The Irish will decide by referendum
In Ireland, a women’s day to change the Constitution. Friday March 8, the Irish will decide by referendum. “We want to remove archaic and outdated terms”, explains Catherine Cox, spokesperson for Family Carers Ireland. The term marriage could be replaced by “lasting relationship”. The Irish Constitution dates from 1937. Since then, the position of women has evolved significantly.
