British director Mike Hodges dies

(London) British director Mike Hodges, best known for directing Flash Gordon in 1980, died at the age of 90, his producer announced to several media on Wednesday.


The director died last Saturday at his home in Dorset, south-west England, his producer and friend Mike Kaplan told the British newspaper. The Guardian and the American magazine variety.

Mike Hodges notably made two black films with Michael Caine: “The Law of the Middle” (Get Carter) in 1971 and “Pulp” the following year, which helped launch the star actor’s career.

In 1980, he produced the space-opera “Flash Gordon”, an adaptation of the eponymous American comic strip with Ornella Muti and Max von Sydow.

Among his most recent works are “Croupier”, in 1998 then his last film “Only death can stop me” with Clive Owen and Charlotte Rampling in 2003.
