British Columbia | Winds could fuel wildfire near border

(Vancouver) The BC Forest Fire Service is warning that strong winds could allow a wildfire that entered the country from Montana earlier this month to spread further.

The Weasel Creek wildfire, located in the southeast of the province near Roosville, covers 1,087 hectares of Canadian soil.

It is on the list of “Forest fires of interest” alongside five other blazes, can we read on the website of the fire department.

According to firefighters, growth scenarios for the blaze call for expansion on the eastern and northeast flanks, which could pose a challenge for firefighters as well as air support crews battling the flames.

In a message posted on Twitter, the forest fire service tried to explain that the speed of the winds gives vigor to the flames in addition to potentially helping them to change their growth trajectory.
