He was best known for his role in The Full Monty, a comedy released in 1997. British actor Tom Wilkinson died on Saturday, December 30, at the age of 75, his family announced. It specified, in a press release, relayed in particular by Sky News, that he was at home with his wife and family when he died suddenly.
Tom Wilkinson played the character of Gerald Cooper in The Full MontyA feature film that has become cult, which featured a group of laid-off metalworkers who decided to transform themselves into strippers in order to earn a living. He also reprized this role in the series inspired by the film, broadcast in June on the Disney+ streaming platform.
The Yorkshire-born actor was awarded the BAFTA for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in the hit comedy. Tom Wilkinson also featured in the romantic comedy Shakespeare In Love, released in 1998, then in Christopher Nolan’s blockbuster, in 2005, Batman Begins. He further starred in the 2011 comedy-drama The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. As the BBC recalls, the actor was nominated twice for the Oscars, for the films In the Bedroom And Michael Clayton.
