British actor Tom Wilkinson dies aged 75

(London) Tom Wilkinson, a British actor well known for his roles in The Full Monty, Michael Clayton And The Best Exotic Marigold Hoteldied at the age of 75, his family announced.


According to a statement shared by his agent on behalf of the family, the actor died suddenly at his home on Saturday. No further details were given.

Wilkinson was nominated for an Oscar for best actor for his performance in the drama In the Bedroom in 2001. Six years later, he received a nomination in the best supporting actor category for the drama Michael Clayton starring George Clooney.

In 1997, he played the role of foreman Gerald Cooper in the comedy The Full Monty telling the story of unemployed workers from a steelworks who found a group of male strippers.

Wilkinson has appeared in dozens of other films, including Batman Begins, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind And Valkyrie.

In 2005 he received the Order of the British Empire.
