Brilliance at the premiere of Dear Chekhov, Thursday evening at the Théâtre du Nouveau Monde! A dozen young actors (who are not identified) took to the stage before the curtain rose to address the audience. They had first protested in the hall of the TNM.

Their spokesperson read a text to affirm that the “Théâtre du Nouveau Monde is no longer new”. “This theater is weakening from its small-world consanguinity”; and he does nothing more than “nice entertainment for an elite”; the TNM is “dying cut off from the people and its originality”. Then to conclude by quoting Jean-Pierre Ronfard: “The living practice of the theater imposes to believe in the permanent revolution. »
All this was done politely, with the agreement of the director Serge Denoncourt (who gave them the right to speak by presenting them at the forefront). The group left the room distributing its leaflets, to the applause of the spectators. The play started 25 minutes late.
After their exit, in her recorded welcome message, the director of the TNM, Lorraine Pintal, also spoke of entering “a new world”. This made the public react spontaneously.
The new play by Michel Tremblay, warmly applauded Thursday evening, features an author who questions his relevance, his relationship to the young generation eager for novelty and modernity. Everything is in everything!
