Faced with strong opposition to its project, the French catering group Le Duff put its factory project in Brittany on hold. The company is brandishing the threat of relocation.

No new industrial bakery in Brittany, for the moment. Bridor announces, Thursday, November 10, to put its factory project in Liffré (Ille-et-Vilaine) on hold. In all, 500 jobs were to be created there, but the boss denounces the slowness of the project. “Despite the start of the project in 2017, there will be no opening before 2027 at the earliest. We cannot afford to wait ten years for our industrial projects to come to fruition”explains Louis le Duff in a press release.

For five years, local associations and elected environmentalists have been opposed to construction, which according to them consumes too much water. The factory was to be set up on 21 hectares of agricultural land, containing wetlands. “If they want to produce something, they produce it on areas that are industrial wastelands, and we don’t touch these agricultural lands and these trees (…) essential in the evolution of the climate”, relates Josselyne Théaudin, delegate at UFC Que Choisir to the Drought Committee of Ille-et-Vilaine. The group planned to invest 250 million euros, which will be placed in factories abroad.
