Bridge-Bonaventure | The Chamber of Commerce wants more housing

The business community would like to see the Plante administration increase the number of housing units it will authorize in Bridge-Bonaventure, south of downtown.

A report from the Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan Montreal (CCMM) concludes that the sector could accommodate up to 15,000 housing units. Until now, developers put forward a vision of approximately 12,000 housing units, confirmed CCMM president Michel Leblanc.

“We are proposing that there be more doors,” Mr. Leblanc said in a telephone interview. He stressed that the immediate proximity of the REM and the infrastructure costs of 450 million linked to the projects justify this increase.

For the moment, the Plante administration is talking about “at least” 7,600 housing units, to which must be added the 2,800 planned on federal land.

The CCMM report also proposes creating a public body dedicated to the development of the sector. “It’s going to be the cornerstone if we want it to happen,” explained Mr. Leblanc.
