The state funeral of former Prime Minister of Canada Brian Mulroney will take place on March 23 in Montreal, the office of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Tuesday.
His coffin will lie in state in Ottawa and Montreal before the funeral, it was specified in a press release.
Parliamentarians will pay tribute to Mr. Mulroney in the House of Commons on March 18.
Canadians are also invited to sign an online condolence book.
Brian Mulroney died February 29 in a Florida hospital following a recent fall at his home in Palm Beach. He was 84 years old.
Mr. Mulroney was on 18e Prime Minister of Canada, having served nearly nine years between 1984 and 1993.
“Brian Mulroney never stopped working for Canada,” Mr. Trudeau said in a statement. His funeral will provide us with the opportunity to pay tribute to his incredible legacy, which will continue to shape our country for many generations. »
