The UK is in conflict with France over the thorny issue of fishing licenses around the Channel Islands. French fishermen are worried about their survival.
In the port of Boulogne-sur-Mer (Pas-de-Calais), five boats have been licensed to fish in UK waters. That’s why I wrote to you of Gaëtan Delsart not’in not part. A year he’s been waiting. “I’m angry, desperate, exasperated, all pissed off. If I don’t have a license, I don’t know what I’m going to do next year. And who will I sell my boat to since it doesn’t have a license?“, he laments.
In the meantime, he has reduced all costs: less staff, less nets, less fuel too. “There are only three of us on board, we are not going to plunder their waters “, hammers this fisherman. With less than two weeks to the holiday season, it’s the season for lobsters and premium fish that are usually caught in British waters. Result : some stalls are empty. Faced with the insufficient number of licenses granted, French fishermen are considering protest actions against the importation of British products.
