The exit of the United Kingdom from the European Union has largely reshuffled the cards, particularly in terms of transport. A new sea route for transporting goods has thus emerged. It leaves from Ireland and avoids the administrative constraints linked to Brexit.
Rosslare (Ireland) was only a small port year ago and half. But, since Brexit, it has become one of the main gateways to the continent for European freight. Here, connections have quadrupled in one year. Each day nowhundreds of trucks pass through it, heading for all of Europe. Before Brexit, the most popular route for truck drivers was through Wales and England, i.e. 11 a.m. of journey approx. From now on, it is this sea route between Ireland and the French coasts that is used, with between 5 p.m. and 24h of boat.
The journey is therefore longer in theory, but it avoids customs checks, formalities, queues, or even the stress of an administrative error that would immobilize a truck. Rosslare now has 45 connections. A direct consequence of Brexit, the magnitude of which surprised professionals in the sector. An Irish transport company quickly made the choice of this direct crossing in order to avoid administrative constraints.
