The village of Breil-sur-Roya (Alpes-Maritimes) is forever marked by storm Alex. Four years later, it is gradually rebuilding. On Sunday, June 30, the National Rally (RN) came out on top in almost the entire valley. “In some ways, it’s Emmanuel Macron’s fault if we’ve reached this point. He tried to implement a policy for a while that didn’t work, and at one point, people reacted by saying: come on, let’s go for it.”confides a resident.
In a town located 20km from the border, the arrival of migrants from Italy is not the only concern. At the station buffet, one of the few places to live in Breil-sur-Roya, the unease seems multiple. “We are a valley that is always in crisis, so tensions are constant. We still don’t have any accommodation, camping, stadium, hotel… The local economy is in decline.”comments Nadège Pastorelli, shopkeeper.
In the 4th constituency, which includes Breil-sur-Roya, the RN MP was re-elected with more than 56% of the vote.
