Consumer goods are caught in the whirlwind of inflation. This time it is the egg producers who are demanding a gesture from the Carrefour supermarkets so that they increase the purchase price of their products.

A rain of eggs falls on the facade of Carrefour’s headquarters. This morning of Friday February 11, breeders came from all over France to demand better remuneration from the group. “They don’t want to pass on our production costs, which have all increased”says a breeder.

They want an increase of two cents on each egg sold in conventional and five cents for organic eggs. For Emmanuel Rouyere, this increase is essential because these costs have increased sharply, especially for cereals. “They increase the cost of the food by around 80 euros”, he calculates. The new, more demanding regulations and the skyrocketing cost of energy also worries Emmanuel. Consumers claim to be ready to make an effort to ensure that breeders are remunerated at their fair value.
