A network of Brazilian pimps has been dismantled in the Bouches-du-Rhône, Franceinfo learned Thursday, November 25, from a police source. Thirteen people were arrested Monday in Vitrolles, Fos-sur-Mer, Marseille but also in the Ardennes in Charleville-Mézières. eight of them have already been indicted, including two in pre-trial detention. The other five must be presented to an investigating judge on Thursday.

According to a source close to the investigation, this network was run by a man but several women, former prostitutes, were in charge of its organization and recruitment.

The network is suspected of having sexually exploited around thirty young Brazilian women recruited in France, Spain or directly in Brazil. The “passes” take place in around thirty apartments dedicated to prostitution in Martigues, Vitrolles, Fos-sur-Mer, Marseille and Charleville-Mézières but also in Fréjus, in the Var, and Rodez, in Aveyron. During searches, investigators found 20,000 euros in cash.

The investigation has been underway for a year, after an anonymous denunciation letter. It is led by the Pimping Repression Brigade of the Marseille judicial police and by the interministerial research group of the Provence-Alpes-Côtes-d’Azur region.
