After Great Britain and Italy, this Brazilian Grand Prix offered the third and last sprint race of the season, Saturday 13 November. Ahead of the traditional Grand Prix to follow on Sunday, this race once again crowned Valtteri Bottas, who had already triumphed in Italy.
In São Paulo, it was Lewis Hamilton who was to start from pole on Saturday. Already penalized by five places for exceeding the quota of authorized engine changes, the Briton was pushed back to last position just before the race for an irregular opening of the DRS. If the Briton climbed fifteen places to finish fifth, he will drop to 10th place on Sunday due to his penalty.
