In the northwest of the country, a lake is empty. It is impossible to travel by boat. Floating houses and businesses end up on land and deserted. The Rio Negroa tributary of the Amazon, is at its lowest level in 120 years.
El Niño blamed
In these regions, residents rely on rivers to supply themselves with goods and drinking water. Thus, dozens of municipalities were declared in a state of emergency. This drought is affecting western South America. Lake Titicaca, located between Peru and Bolivia, has retreated by two kilometers in places. In question, the return of El Niñoa weather phenomenon natural which reduces the formation of clouds in this region. Added to this phenomenon are hot temperatures in the North Atlantic and intense deforestation in the Amazon.
