Brandy takes over the role of Cinderella

Twenty-five years after playing the first black Cinderella in history, r’n’b star Brandy will reprise the role in a new franchise film Descendantsannounced Disney + on Monday.

In 1997, Brandy slipped into Cinderella’s dresses in Rodgers & Hammerstein Cinderella, a film made for TV which had been a resounding success: 60 million people had watched it when it was first broadcast on the ABC channel. In this musical that has become a classic, the singer and actress was then surrounded by, among others, Whitney Houston, Whoopi Goldberg and Paolo Montalbán in the role of Prince Charming.

For The Pocket Watch — that’s the working title for now — Brandy will have pop singer Rita Ora as her colleague this time, in the role of the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland. It is that the concept of Descendantsa series of musical films aimed at teenagers whose first three episodes aired between 2015 and 2018 on the Disney Channel, is to bring children together with the heroes and villains of Disney tales.

In this fourth opus, the release date of which is not yet known, we can therefore closely follow the adventures of Red (Kylie Cantrall), rebellious daughter of the Queen of Hearts, and Chloe (Malia Baker), the courageous but privileged daughter of Cinderella and Prince Charming.
