Boxing: Stevenson snatches WBO super featherweight title from Herring

Shakur Stevenson of the United States won the WBO super featherweight belt by beating, by referee in the 10th round, his compatriot Jamel Herring, Saturday in Atlanta.

Stevenson, now 17 wins in as many fights, is champion in a second different category, having previously owned the WBO featherweight title between 2019 and 2020.

The 24-year-old boxer, from Newark, was domineering most of the fight, even though his opponent sold his skin dearly, including releasing a few punches in the 7th round.

But a big cut above the right eye made the fight too difficult for him, the swelling and the bleeding preventing him from seeing the blows coming, without being able to retaliate.

While he was taking yet another flurry of hooks from Stevenson, the referee deemed it wiser to stop the charges.

Herring concedes his third loss in 26 fights at 35.
