Boxing Day | A pro-Palestinian demonstration at Carrefour Laval

Stores such as Zara and H&M served as the backdrop to a demonstration in support of Palestine on Tuesday at Carrefour Laval, in the middle of Boxing Day.

On social networks, several photos and videos show several dozen people carrying flags in the colors of Palestine inside Carrefour Laval on Tuesday.

In the middle of Boxing Day, the shopping center is busy, confirmed to The Press an employee who was not authorized to speak to the media.

Laval police confirmed they were deployed at Carrefour Laval regarding the demonstration. At the end of the afternoon, no overflow had been observed.

The demonstration is taking place peacefully, also affirmed the Carrefour Laval employee.

Several demonstrations in support of Palestine have taken place in Montreal and elsewhere in the province since October 7. A bloody attack by Hamas in Israel was followed by a deadly Israeli response inside the Gaza Strip, which has been under blockade since October 9.

According to a latest report, 20,915 people, mostly women, adolescents and children, have been killed in Israeli military operations in Gaza, including 241 in the last 24 hours.

The entry of humanitarian aid has not increased significantly in the Palestinian enclave, despite the vote last Friday by the Security Council of the United Nations (UN) of a resolution calling for its “immediate” and “large-scale” delivery.

According to the UN, famine threatens in the cramped territory and most hospitals are out of service.

Despite the intensification of international pressure on Israel, “the war will last for many more months,” Israeli Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi said on Monday after meeting with soldiers in Gaza.
