American Demetrius Andrade easily retained his WBO middleweight belt by beating Irishman Jason Quigley, by referee stoppage in the second round, Friday in Manchester, New Hampshire.
Andrade, who has won all of his 31 fights, including 19 before the limit, knocked down his opponent for the first time in the first round, with a left right sequence.
These same combinations had the same effect in the following recovery. Quigley, helpless and overwhelmed, fell a second time, then a third, before the referee stopped the charges.
“I did what I said. I felt good and sent a message. You wanted knockouts, I managed them! ”Commented Andrade, known for his patience which is sometimes too pronounced in the ring and who indeed showed aggressiveness and a desire to get it over with quickly.
He is already anticipating his next fight, either against the Mexican Jaime Munguia, or against the winner or loser of the fight between the Kazakh Gennadiy Golovkin, holder of the IBF belt, and the Japanese Ryota Murata, scheduled for December 29 in Saitama ( Japan).
