Telecoms are increasingly merging with cloud services, as operators like Bouygues Telecom Entreprises (BTE) partner with OVHcloud to enhance their offerings. BTE aims to support mid-sized companies with hybrid cloud solutions and emphasizes sovereignty and energy efficiency. With a certified team and ongoing collaborations, BTE fosters a cloud-agnostic approach to manage various environments, while also focusing on sustainable practices through initiatives like FinOps and GreenOps.
The integration of telecommunications and cloud services is progressing rapidly. Telecom providers must go beyond merely offering fiber and mobile subscriptions to their business clients.
Companies like Orange Business, SFR Business, and Free Pro have enhanced their B2B portfolios with cloud solutions, often bundled with cybersecurity options.
Bouygues Telecom Entreprises (BTE) is stepping up its game by collaborating with OVHcloud to broaden its cloud services. This partnership introduces a private cloud infrastructure (Hosted Private Cloud), which operates within the data centers of this leading European cloud service provider.
Facilitating the Hybrid Model for Mid-Sized Companies
BTE offers comprehensive support, covering everything from audits to application migrations, along with infrastructure maintenance and managed services. This collaboration specifically targets mid-sized enterprises (ETIs) that may find it challenging to navigate the complexities of hybrid cloud setups.
“Businesses are seeking resilience, especially when recovering their IT systems after experiencing ransomware attacks or the malicious actions of employees,” states Stephan Kanis. Currently, 80 employees have been certified in the OVHcloud environment, with the number expected to reach 100 by the end of October.
Addressing Sovereignty Concerns
By partnering with OVHcloud, BTE underscores the importance of sovereignty and energy efficiency. OVHcloud holds the SecNumCloud 3.2 certification from Anssi for its private cloud services and boasts a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) rating of 1.29, thanks to its innovative water cooling system developed over the past two decades.
Since 2021, Bouygues Telecom Entreprises has been promoting its own trusted cloud services, stemming from its acquisition of Nerim. The OnCloud division provides public cloud solutions through its own data centers or those of its partner, Equinix.
While OnCloud offers a less extensive service catalog compared to OVHcloud, it claims over 500 clients, primarily SMEs and ETIs, highlighting the resilience and high availability of its infrastructures. “Clients approach us mainly to utilize managed virtual machines for hosting their critical applications,” Kanis explains.
Addtionally, BTE is advancing the development of NumSpot’s trusted cloud platform, where Bouygues Telecom collaborates with Banque des Territoires, Dassault Systèmes, and Docaposte. Recently, BTE partnered with Docaposte to receive the approval of Resah (Réseau des Acheteurs Hospitaliers) for the provision of trusted cloud services and related resources.
Embracing a Cloud-Agnostic Approach
Beyond sovereign cloud environments, BTE is committed to a cloud-agnostic strategy by establishing partnerships with major players like Microsoft and AWS. “We present ourselves as orchestrators of managed services across multicloud and hybrid landscapes,” asserts Kanis. To efficiently manage these varied environments, BTE employs Morpheus Data CMP (Cloud Management Platform).
“We incorporate both FinOps and GreenOps strategies to minimize costs and reduce carbon emissions,” Kanis adds. He emphasizes the enhanced consulting aspect, which was bolstered by the acquisition of the ESN C2S last December. BTE aims to guide organizations in their cloud migration strategies, helping determine which components of their information systems should remain on-premise and which should transition to the cloud.
