Bouygues Completes Acquisition of La Poste Mobile: Implications for Subscribers of France’s Pioneer Virtual Operator

Bouygues Telecom is moving forward with its acquisition of La Poste Mobile, France’s leading virtual operator, with plans to complete the deal by year-end. This acquisition will increase Bouygues’ subscriber base from 15.8 million to 18.1 million, enhancing its competitiveness against SFR. La Poste Mobile customers will experience no immediate service changes, as operations will continue under existing infrastructure. Bouygues has also launched new plans to entice customers, including a cost-effective family plan and a high-speed fiber offer.

Bouygues Telecom Set to Acquire La Poste Mobile

Exciting news for Bouygues Telecom as they gear up for the acquisition of La Poste Mobile, France’s largest virtual operator. Entering exclusive negotiations back in January, Bouygues has recently confirmed in their quarterly results that they expect to finalize the acquisition by the end of the year. This strategic move is anticipated to boost Bouygues’ mobile subscriber count from 15.8 million to 18.1 million, allowing them to catch up with SFR, which has seen its numbers dip below 20 million.

What Does This Mean for Subscribers?

For current La Poste Mobile subscribers, there’s no need to panic. Initially, they can expect a seamless transition with no immediate changes to their services. La Poste Mobile will continue to operate through post offices and maintain its existing network, relying on SFR’s infrastructure until the end of 2026.

The protracted negotiations over the sale, which involved a disagreement regarding the distribution of the 950 million euros in proceeds, have finally concluded. SFR initially sought a larger share due to its significant debt concerns. However, despite not securing the desired amount, SFR will still walk away with over 100 million euros more than what a proportional distribution would have yielded.

With this acquisition, Bouygues is not just enhancing its subscriber base but also strengthening its position in the competitive telecom landscape. The addition of 2.3 million subscribers will push Bouygues past the 18 million mark, putting them in closer proximity to SFR’s customer base.

Recently, Bouygues Telecom has also been active in launching new offers to attract more customers. Their latest family plan, B.iG, features decreasing rates and flexible services, providing significant savings for multiple lines combined with a fiber subscription. Additionally, Bouygues introduced a new single-play offer called B&YOU Pure Fiber, which offers a Bbox Ultym with an impressive download speed of 8 Gb/s for just 24 euros per month, appealing to the growing trend of consumers moving away from traditional triple-play packages.

As Bouygues Telecom prepares for this acquisition, the stage is set for exciting developments in the French telecom market.
