Having changed his engine before qualifying, Lewis Hamilton knew he needed a perfect session to avoid giving up all dreams at the Turkish Grand Prix on Sunday 10 October. And the world championship leader did it, showing himself the fastest on Saturday in qualifying for his 102nd career pole position.

The Briton therefore improves his own record in the exercise, even if he will not benefit from it, penalized by ten places for having used a fourth engine this season. It is his teammate Valtteri Bottas, second in qualifying, who will start at the top of the Grand Prix on Sunday ahead of Max Verstappen (Red Bull), Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) and Pierre Gasly (AlphaTauri).

A happy second place for the Monegasque who had almost missed out on Q2, in which his teammate Carlos Sainz got trapped, who will therefore start from 15th position. The same fate for Esteban Ocon (Alpine), 12th and who will therefore start just behind Lewis Hamilton on Sunday.

The good performance of the day goes to Mick Schumacher (Haas) who pulled out of Q1 for the second time this season, after the French GP. Big disappointment on the other hand for Daniel Ricciardo (McLaren), eliminated in the first qualifying session.
