(Boston) The Boston Red Sox placed right-handed pitcher Chris Martin on the 15-day injured list Wednesday because he suffers from anxiety.
This decision is retroactive to Sunday. The 38-year-old veteran hasn’t pitched since May 30 against the Detroit Tigers, when he allowed four hits, including two home runs, and three earned runs in one inning on the mound. He has a 4.22 ERA in 21 appearances on the mound this season.
Martin has a 3.42 ERA in 345 appearances on the mound in 11 career seasons in the Major Leagues with the Colorado Rockies, New York Yankees, Texas Rangers, Atlanta Braves, Chicago Cubs , the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Red Sox. He spent the last two campaigns with the Massachusetts team.
To fill his absence, the Red Sox recalled right-hander Zack Kelly from their AAA school club in Worcester.
