In Japan, companies seek to protect themselves from bad jokes from their employees. These jokes can be quite dirty, like a seller who hides in the window of frozen products, or a cook who films himself serving a dish taken from a trash can. A few incidents of this kind have recently caused scandal in the country. Insurance contracts have even been created to help SMEs deal with these problems. Japanese insurance companies are renowned for their great inventiveness. You can get insurance against almost everything in Japan.
It is often poorly paid part-time workers who make these very bad jokes. They lie down among the ice creams at the supermarket. They dress up and film themselves on social networks, half-naked in the kitchens. It is never serious and remains isolated incidents, but they are extremely shocking in Japan, where customers are not used to this disorder.
The cost of damaged equipment or training needed to reorganize teams
Stores and restaurants are sometimes forced to close to manage the crisis, to replace equipment, or to conduct additional training with their teams. This is automatically less turnover.
Insurance companies therefore offer SMEs coverage against these risks, with new measures to protect against all these problems with its employees. They can be reimbursed for the turnover lost due to the stupidity of an employee, for example, the replacement of a device that has been soiled or damaged. This is also the cost of the seminar to reorganize a team. These are not large sums but it can be destabilizing for small stores or small restaurants.
Insurance also for employees, against harassment from customers or managers
Insurance also exists to protect employees. We find all the classic insurances, as in France, against work accidents or illness, mbut there are also new insurance policies to protect against all forms of harassment. Sexual harassment, but also harassment by customers or by managers.
This is a big problem in Japan. Superiors can be quite obnoxious to their subordinates. And for example, the Tokyo Marine & Nichido Fire insurance company offers a contract that covers the payment of damages to employees who have been harassed by their boss. It can be several thousand euros. And the insurance now also pays up to 3,000 euros for the company to organize, internally, seminars to prevent this problem from happening again.
