The vehicle sank near Saint-Patrick and Lapierre streets, in the borough of LaSalle.

“According to the first information gathered from witnesses, the vehicle was traveling at a high speed in a northerly direction on rue Lapierre,” said agent Gabriella Youakim, of the SPVM, “It would have struck the guardrail before completing its journey. in the Lachine Canal. »

“At this time, the number of occupants in the vehicle is unknown. It is still too early to determine the cause of the incident,” she added in the afternoon. The discovery of the body by divers from the SPVM tactical team was confirmed shortly before 10 p.m.

The nautical patrol of the Montreal Fire Department (SIM) and collision investigators were also called to the scene.

In January, a 70-year-old woman died after a collision that caused her vehicle to veer into the Lachine Canal near the intersection between Saint-Patrick Street and Dollard Avenue, about 1 km from the site of Sunday’s events. .
