A vehicle plunged into the Lachine Canal on Sunday afternoon, said the Service de Police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM). It is still unknown if there are any injuries at the time of this writing.

The vehicle sank near Saint-Patrick and Lapierre streets, in the borough of LaSalle.

“According to the first information gathered from witnesses, the vehicle was traveling at a high speed in a northerly direction on rue Lapierre,” said agent Gabriella Youakim, of the SPVM, “It would have struck the guardrail before completing its journey. in the Lachine Canal. »

“At this time, the number of occupants in the vehicle is unknown. It is still too early to determine the cause of the incident,” she added.

Divers from the SPVM and the nautical patrol from the Montreal Fire Department (SIM) were called to the scene, where investigators must also travel.

In January, a septuagenarian lost her life after a collision that caused her vehicle to branch off into the Lachine Canal near the intersection between Saint-Patrick and Dollard streets, about 1 km from the scene of Sunday’s events.
