A week after his victory in the face of a vote of no confidence in the British parliament, Boris Johnson is back on the offensive and intends to renegotiate the post-Brexit agreement on the status of Northern Ireland.

The British governmentby the voice of its Prime Minister Boris Johnson, confirmed on Monday June 13 the tabling of a bill to free itself from certain provisions of the Northern Irish protocol, signed during the Brexit agreement in December 2020. A project discussed for months which meets the opposition of the European Union. This post-Brexit protocol has led to supply difficulties in supermarkets, an awakening of tensions between communities and even a political deadlock. Many Northern Irish people thus feel cut off from the United Kingdom, notably with the return of a customs border.

Boris Johnson thus intends to renegotiate the Northern Irish protocol. If Brussels says it is ready for adjustments, the EU does not want new negotiations. The British government could force through as talks have stalled for months.
