Still a member of the House of Commons, Boris Johnson has delivered a speech in recent months to bankers in New York, for insurers in the United States, a summit organized by CNN in Portugal and another in India.
Each time, the thunderous former Prime Minister was paid between 215,000 and 277,000 pounds, according to this document published on the Parliament’s website and which lists the financial interests of parliamentarians.
Boris Johnson left Downing Street in September after announcing his resignation over the summer, hampered by several scandals within his government.
He did try to return to power after the departure of his successor Liz Truss, who only lasted a little over a month as head of the executive, but in the midst of the economic crisis in the United Kingdom, the Conservative parliamentarians preferred his former finance minister Rishi Sunak.
However, he did not close any doors, considering himself “well placed to ensure a conservative victory in 2024” in the legislative elections, aware that he remains popular with the base of the party.
