Border Services | Agreement in principle ratified by 91%

(Montreal) Customs and immigration union members working at the Border Services Agency have finally ratified the agreement in principle reached in mid-June with the Treasury Board.

9,000 union members are affected across the country.

The Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) reported Thursday that 91% of union members approved the agreement in principle at general meetings held since June 20.

The negotiating committee unanimously recommended that its members vote in favour of this agreement.

According to the Alliance, the new employment contract provides for higher wage increases than those obtained by other law enforcement officials. The union was demanding a wage catch-up in this regard.

The PSAC also notes that it has obtained better protection of jobs against technological changes, as well as improved provisions for the adjustment of schedules and taking leave.

The collective agreement, which lasts for four years, will be in effect from 2022 to 2026.
