(Ottawa) Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos is expected to announce major changes to border measures at 1 p.m. to counter the spread of the Omicron variant of COVID-19.

At this time, the government is advising against all non-essential international travel due to the threat posed by the Omicron variant.
Foreign nationals coming to Canada and people traveling within the country by plane, train or boat must be vaccinated against COVID-19, with some exceptions.
Currently, vaccinated international travelers are tested before crossing the border, and potentially again once they arrive at a Canadian airport.
Travelers who have been outside of Canada or the United States are also required to self-quarantine until they test negative on arrival.
Mr Duclos suggested at a press conference last week that the measures would be changed, saying the worst of the Omicron wave is now behind us.
