The Girondins de Bordeaux denounced in a press release “racist remarks and insults” which would have been the victim of the right side Malcom Bokele, following their victory against Bastia (2-0), Saturday April 8 as part of the 30th day of Ligue 2.

The facts would have happened “in a context of a tense end to the match” between two competitors for the rise in the elite, adds the club. “Having learned of the events that took place after the match, FC Girondins de Bordeaux gives its full support to Malcom Bokelele in the face of the racist remarks and insults made against him.”

As the score seemed sealed as added time approached, players and staff from both sides found themselves embroiled in a scuffle. Bokele and Corsican striker Migouel Alfarela, who started the hostilities, both received a red card.

Interrogates by AFP, the club indicated that these were insults uttered on social networks. Shortly after the match, several tweets and messages with offensive and racist connotations targeted the Bordeaux defender.

The Girondins say, through their deputy general manager Thomas Jacquemier, quoted in the press release, to consider “prosecutions […] so that the events of this day do not go unpunished.”
