Booster doses | Imminent decision on the continuation of the vaccination campaign

The Legault government is still weighing the recommendations of the Quebec Committee on Immunization (CIQ) on the clientele to target for the next booster doses of vaccines against COVID-19. The campaign could now target those most at risk rather than the general population.

“We are having discussions with Public Health, which has received an opinion from the CIQ. We are currently continuing the discussions and we will take the time to analyze the recommendation, ”said the press attaché to the Minister of Health, Antoine de la Durantaye, Wednesday morning.

According to the most recent opinion of the CIQ, which has not yet been made public, Public Health could now recommend that the vaccination campaign target groups deemed to be at greater risk. Thus, adequately vaccinated Quebecers would not have to get a booster dose in the coming months, mentioned Radio-Canada and The duty over the past few days.

The Legault government has not yet announced whether it will hold a press conference on Thursday, with the Director of Public Health, Dr.r Luc Boileau, to review this option.

It would be “a great decision”, commented the Dr Alex Carignan, microbiologist and infectiologist at the CIUSSS de l’Estrie – CHUS, on Twitter. ” The [vaccination] and prior infections provide protection against complications and have changed the global picture of #COVID19,” wrote Dr.r Carignan.

The last opinion of the CIQ, already advanced in this direction.

“Immunocompetent individuals who have been previously infected and received the monovalent vaccine as a fall 2022 booster dose have hybrid immunity that confers excellent protection against hospitalization and currently do not require additional dose of bivalent vaccine”, already estimated the committee.

This notice was made public on December 5, but was dated November 18.
