Boom in the East of Montreal: “We are going to exceed billions of dollars in investments”

“If we had this 15 years ago, the battery industry would have been established in the East of Montreal,” concedes to Newspaper Jean-Denis Charest, CEO of the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Montreal (CCEM), after an envelope of $100 million from Quebec to revive his corner.

New creature

Monday morning, Quebec supported the creation of the Society for the Development of Land in the East of Montreal (SMTEM), by injecting $100 million to purchase and decontaminate strategic industrial land.

Montreal already had $100 million four years ago to rehabilitate contaminated land. This new $100 million brings the sums invested to more than $200 million.

Investissement Québec (IQ) will be the sole sponsor of the new creature of the Legault government. Fondaction will act as general partner.
