According to DNA analyzes carried out on Sunday March 31, the bones found in Haut-Vernet (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence) are indeed those of little Émile, who disappeared on July 8. They were discovered by a hiker less than 2 km from the grandparents’ home.
Dense forests, mountain rivers, hilly area and investigators at work. In a heavily gridded area, bones belonging to little Émile were found on Saturday March 30. A hiker discovered a child’s skull just about 1 km below the hamlet of Haut-Vernet (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence), where the little boy had disappeared in July 2023. After the discovery, the skull was transported by helicopter to a scientific laboratory of the gendarmerie to be assessed. The DNA is clear, the bones belong to the two-year-old child, who disappeared nine months earlier. It is currently impossible to know the causes of his death.
Excavations relaunched
The mayor of the hamlet expressed his great sadness and said he had, until now, hope of finding the child. Émile’s parents, who live in Bouches-du-Rhône, were informed in a press release on the morning of Sunday March 31. They speak of heartbreaking pain. In the coming hours, judges and investigators will restart field searches and try to determine the precise causes of the child’s death.
